GAGE PARK WITH A NEW SEASON AND NEW BEGINNING
Head Coach Andre Rogers(l) and shooting guard Antjuan Thomas
Gage Park may not be the first school you think of when one think's premium Chicago prep hoop hopefuls, but the excitement and anticipation of a new head coach and accompanying hoped-for success at this south side school attracted us here as we start our 16th season of covering Chicago basketball. After playing for and learning from the legendary late Westinghouse head coach Frank Lollino Sr., Andre Rogers years later finds himself in his 1st season as head coach at this Green-Central school. Rogers plans to bring the motivating techniques and "westside" toughness intoned into him by Lollino as well as aided by a stint coaching girls at Providence St. Mel. "Play hard and be tenacious is what he (Lollino) taught us," Rogers said at practice Wednesday. Aiding him in his up-tempo plans is junior shooting guard Antjuan Thomas, who transferred from St. Joseph. "I know I have to step up here because I'll be playing a lot more here," he told us at practice. With a challenging pre-conference schedule, including appearances at prestigious tournaments such as Dorothy Gators, Vince Carters Chopps Memorial, and the Proviso West Holiday Tournament, Gage Park will face vaunted early challenges. Just the way coach Rogers wants it.

Cedric Foster Tim Schwoerer
Basketball was little more than a mere afterthought to Cedric Foster as late as his varsity years in high school. He never played organized basketball and didn’t really try to. The streets were calling his name and he was answering. Then something funny began to happen. First with his body and then with his mind. Both began to develop and expand. At simultaneous times, physically and mentally he knew the moment in time was to now answer to different callings. Education took to the forefront, and a passion to enter college became overwhelming. The streets can take away and give right back, just that fast. Cedric was intelligent enough to know it was time to depart these cruel and uncaring south side streets , streets that mercilessly took the life of a brother. Responsibility, maturity, and brave risk taking kicked in, and after a few missteps that did not deter him Cedric found the warm and cozy corner of (University of Wisconsin) Sheboygan WI. to attend school and play basketball. A once undersized body frame developed fast , settling in at a firm 6’2 and 205lbs. Now sporting a school uniform for the first time, this sophomore G/F is starting for the Wombats. Showing strength, agility, and athleticism, Cedric is making his mark here and is a co-captain. Tim Schwoerer is the other co-captain and Cedric’s closest friend. Easily the teams comedic heart and soul, Tim shows a dead eye ability from any spot on the offensive end and is a fearless and penetrating ball handler. Recently we visited them for their season opener at their UW-Sheboygan campus, about an hour north of Milwaukee on the shores of Lake Michigan.

COACH MICHAEL LANG RESIGNS FROM EAST-WEST
A friend and supporter of this website for many years, we wish nothing but success for a very determined, passionate, and capable head coach in Michael Lang.
