Our Thoughts...
***Congratulations to the team that indeed deserved to win the Class AA title...Simeon. Wish though you weren't playing scared-to-death to loose, just like your opponent.
***Derrick Rose is the most exciting player to photograph we ever have had. Everything this man does is mind-blowing sensational. Every cut. Every pass. Every shot. Everything.
***Simeon Head Coach Robert Smith: Yea you can coach but...be your own man and stop worrying how Bob Hambrick would of handled players celebrating. What's with that sour mad-mug look on your face in the post-game interview? You just won the championship baby and you cannot enjoy or what's worse let your players enjoy it...at least in view of us. It's probably once in their lifetime coach and you will not let them go crazy? That's really to bad sir.
***Marshall's Patrick Beverley is the real deal when it comes to class on the court. He showed that on more than one occasion in highly significant ways. That goes for all of Marshall's players and we're sure Simeon's too, if only Hambrick...er Smith...sorry...would allow the world to experience them.
***Marshall/Simeon: a dream game for us who follow the Chicago Public League but a nightmare for the IHSA. Their building wasn't even half full and the fans who were there mainly lacked any enthusiasm for the game. Why? You know why. It's an absolute disgrace how poorly Chicago teams 'travel'. Go ahead and blame social and economic reasons but if these schools students, teachers, parents, alumni, and genuine fans really wanted to jump into cars and be there, they could of. It will never change.
***Shame on us for never having covered the Washington Minutemen before this year. What a run they had and it would of been refreshing to have seen them make it farther. We discovered that head coach Kenneth Crump is the real deal when it comes to coaching ability, and also one of the more colorful, fire-pissing coaches we have ever seen. Great job coach and also we think your star player Mario Little is tops in playing ability and sportsmanship.
***Why must the IHSA hold all it's Sectional championships on the same day (a Friday)? There were so many compelling match-ups in one night last week.(Fortunately the game we picked to cover, Thornwood's 5 o.t. win over Washington, was the best). How about staggering them(for the fans sake, not us)? Maybe hold half the games on Thursday then the other half Friday?
***However to their credit, much appreciation to the IHSA for splitting the Chicago area Super-Sectional games to both Monday as well as Tuesday. Four games in two nights...Heaven!
***To even the IHSA's greatest credit, thank you for dumping the airy, passionless United Center as a Super-Sectional site. High School basketball absolutely does not belong there.
***It's not the same without Chris Head coaching some team somewhere. Come back coach.
***It's also not the same without the great High School Elite.com. That site was an inspiration for this one. Frank Rusnak, who ran that site and is a good friend, is a gifted and highly talented writer and web designer who is destined for much, much bigger things. The future top preps writer at the Chicago Sun-Times? It's a natural and appropriate fit.
