*************************************************************
Harold Washington was the first African American Mayor of the city of Chicago.
He was a graduate of DuSable High School, Roosevelt University, and Northwestern University Law School.
Just as Harold Washington attended a public high school and became very
Successful, my dreams are to be very successful after my studies in college.
Both DuSable High School and Martin Luther King, Jr. College Prep are schools of excellence. As a senior at King College Prep I can truly say King has been an
Excellent school because we have teachers who care.
Harold Washington success as an assistant city prosecutor, a private law practice, an
Arbitrator, a legislator, and Mayor of our city gave me the ideal that I can be
Successful also. Mayor Washington climbed to reach his goals.
Learning all I have learned over the years from my African Americans classes, my exposure to the DuSable museum of African American History, my research at the Historical Society, and listening to my parents; I decided Mayor Washington was indeed a hero. He is someone I will always remember because he made history in Chicago. He left young African American boys/girls, men/women a legacy of hope.
In the area of study that I have done well in. I to have climbed to where I am as a teen-ager. I have been successful with twelve years of Spanish Language, Computer Science, and as a MVP Basketball player. I started playing basketball when I was three yrs old.
Harold Washington was elected or appointed to many jobs. I was captain of Youth Basketball Association at South-side YMCA. I also was Basketball captain at Andrew Jackson Language Academy. At King College Prep I was selected captain of freshmen team. From there I played varsity during my sophomore and junior year. As a senior I am captain of our basketball team.
My work-ethic landed me a job at Provident Hospital last summer (06). I also did free-service for senior citizens with their yards over the summers and their walk-ways in the winter. This winter I have helped when we had snow.
I not only hold record as an MVP Basketball player for my school but I am and MVP person for senior citizens in my community also, because of my Spanish knowledge I help students at King and tutor my cousins at other schools.
My plans are to continue my climb and achieve my goals by becoming prepared for work-jobs in my areas of the study be it as a Computer Technologist or engineering or basketball player. I know that academics are in front of basketball and everyone will not play professional therefore, I will minor In Physical education so that I teach/coach basketball for future Chicago students.
Regardless of where my climb takes me, I will join the league of notable African Americans that have received their education from attending Chicago Public Schools.
