ALL-STAR GAME
VISIT THE HOME OF THE CHICAGO PUBLIC LEAGUE BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
One of the better all-star games around is the event formerly known as the Chicago Public League All-Star game. Now this fine event, played at Whitney Young High School and paying tribute this year to the memory of Marshall's legendary Luther Bedford, is organized by the Chicago Public League Basketball Association. We thank Von Steuben head coach Vince Carter and all the great folks of the CPLBA for their outstanding job and accommodations.

CHICAGO STATE'S ROYCE PARRAN ON A NATIONAL STAGE
(AP Photo/John Amis)
Last Thursday in Atlanta, at the Final Four Slam-Dunk Championship, the Cougars exceptionally exciting Royce Parran made an outstanding showing on national television. He didn't win it, but oh so close! The entire nation got to drink in his skill, charismatic personality, and even some dancing skills. We got a look at that a week earlier (below) at a open scrimmage at Chicago State. Good luck Royce in your NBA quest!

MAXWELL JACKSON GOES ONE ON ONE WITH ILLINOIS STATE'S OSIRIS ELDRIDGE
Former De La Salle High School standout Maxwell Jackson is soon to complete his first year of college at Spoon River. One of our original and best journal writers, Max was recently back home in Chicago on spring break. He took the time to update with us his school and basketball situation, which took some sudden and unexpected turns. Oh and he brought along this dude named Osiris Eldridge to go head to head against. Of course Osiris is attending Illinois State University and recently was one of the top prep talents in Illinois, out of Chicago Phillips HS. See who won...

UIC MARCH MADNESS; THORNTON AND SIMEON PREVAIL
Thornton head coach Troy Jackson (l) and Simeon's Derrick Rose show #1 signs to a packed UIC Pavilion

Thornton prevailed over Hillcrest...dramatically. Simeon proved that it's weaponry remains strong even when it's  big tank  is taken out.  The double-header at UIC produced two very deserving winners. As we always say this time of year, due to extensive written coverage you can view elsewhere---No need for us to write anymore; click above for the best photos anywhere in the world of these two fantastic games.

CHARGERS DO IT AGAIN..WIN LYONS
St. Joseph's Evan Turner with a first half slam. He led all scorers vs. Proviso East with 19 points
PHOTOS
All we can think of to say was what a fan was heard to mention after this game..."St. Joseph vs. Simeon should be played downstate!" Fortunately this glorious of all match-up's will be here in Chicago, Tuesday March 13 at UIC. It will be a Super-Sectional game to determine which one of those two teams makes it into the ELITE 8. St. Joseph came back from 4 points down in the fourth quarter to narrowly escape 61-53 against the always tough and well coached Proviso East Pirates in La Grange. The game was a classic and both teams brought considerable pride to their schools. But now it's Evan and Derrick ROUND 2! Mercy!! Yes they both deserve to be in Peoria; but only one will.

The photo above was the key moment; Washington misses a free throw with 20 seconds left that would of tied the game against Thornton. Dwayne Mays grabs the board and with that captures the victory. Thornton defeats Washington 56-52 in the Thornton Sectional. Thornton's Josh Parker did not miss his chances on the line, nailing 5 free throws in the last minute to key the win. Catch all the action by clicking above, and since it's late in the playoffs we offer behind the scenes coverage as well.

BUSINESS AS USUAL FOR ST.  JOSEPH
PHOTOS
No sweat as usual as St. Joseph eliminated nearby rival Proviso West 61-52 Tuesday at the Lyons Township Sectional. 'Joe's Evan Turner (above)  played with a passion (as usual) leading all scorers with 21 points. Inside the paint, where he always is set up, he was deadly. DeMetri McCarney also contributed in big ways for the Chargers, whose intimidation helped in keeping Proviso West ice-cold in shooting.

WASHINGTON WINS WHEN IT COUNTS
PHOTOS
Yes they lost last weekend, bowing out against Simeon in the Chicago Public League championship game. That game though does not count towards state titles; Regional championships do. Tonight Washington was in one and won it, defeating Julian on it's home floor 67-58.

Head coach Michael Lang talks to his team at the Jacoby Dickens Center at Chicago State University
PHOTOS
We promised we'd check in from time to time with one of our local Ju-Co favorites, East-West University from downtown Chicago, and here we go. Actually when this website began in 1997, we were heavily into covering the Triton's, Kennedy-King's, and Malcolm X's of the world. It's a great place to follow some of our former high school heroes in up-close and personal settings. So it's good to get back every once in a while, although this game with East-West was against D1 Chicago State and took place on their home court. None the less, even though East-West lost big (Saturday, Feb. 10) to Chicago State 112-77, they played tenaciously throughout and never showed quit. Head coach Michael Lang continues to keep this program afloat though personal and financial sacrifices, and a willingness to show commitment that will not break. East-West Guard Tunis (T.J.) Jackson also has graced our webpages plenty and continues to headline the show for his team. (He's been the player in the upper right hand corner of our front page gripping the basketball for over 4 years now!). He pulled off a truly impressive performance despite the route; hitting for 26 points, pulling down 14 rebounds, dishing out 8 assists, and stepping out with 5 steals. This senior is set to do something special, trust us, after graduation. For Chicago State, what a job by the ridiculous Royce Parran! This man is magic with the ball; ball-handling, dribbling, dunking. As with Jackson, guys like this bring the show and must be paid close attention to. Parran hit for 28 points in the game and dished out 11 assists to go with 8 steals. You guys did the Chicago Public League damn proud! (Jackson-Hyde Park Academy...Parran-Lincoln Park)

Despite playing in a frenzied environment at St. Patrick in front of one of the wildest student sections anywhere, St. Joseph managed to pull away late to a 59-54 victory. The teams stars led the way in scoring; Evan Turner hit for 20 points and Sam Maniscalco led all scorers with 28 points. Most of Turners baskets were clutch shots in the last few minutes.

At a surprisingly far less than capacity T.F. North High School in Calumet City Friday night, the Meteors opened up a sizable lead late and beat Thornwood 55-41. Marshall's Michael Stovall

Marshall coasted to a 75-57 win over Farragut Tuesday evening at Marshall. Ryan Hare led the way with 21 points and exhibited  his usual intelligent court leadership skills. Also dispalying skills was Michael Stovall, who threw in 15 points. Michael Dunnigan, Farragut's star attraction, was frustrated throughout. Foul trouble and poor decision making made him a non-factor; he scored only 10 points.
