WEB SPORTS CHICAGO    |     home                                                    TUNIS JACKSON UPDATE Tunis Jackson at Daley College; July 2009   Its always refreshing to check in with our favorite hoopers in an arena other than basketball. We’ve chronicled many of the preeminent ballers doing other things; rapping, dancing, singing, boxing…even modeling! But swimming? This is a first and a refreshing one at that. Recently we caught up with ‘the face’ of our website Tunis (TJ or Tuna you pick) Jackson.   We go way back with ‘the face’ (Tuna is the shirtless player holding the basketball in the upper right hand corner of our main page---a picture that’s been there 8 years now) and watched him shine at local colleges such as Kennedy-King and East-West. But now he is at Daley College on Chicago’s south side. Tunis is a conditioning instructor at the school and a vital entity in the hoped for success of Daley’s young basketball crew.   Excelling at different things is what helps him stand apart and that brings us to his ‘Swim Club‘. Just about everyday Tunis brings the guys from the basketball team down into the pool for a painstaking and rigorous  workout. Loads of good times and camaraderie follow, but what also is occurring is the important strengthening and conditioning this newer entry in the Chicago college basketball landscape is enduring under Jackson’s tutelage. How it plays out on the court once the season commences awaits to be seen, but one thing for sure is that Swim Club and the guys at Daley will only be improved because of Mr. Jackson.
