NEW COACH AND NEW OUTLOOK AT MORTON COLLEGE
Cicero, Il.   On a recent visit to Morton College in Cicero, we had the occasion to catch-up with Men’s head basketball coach  Frank Lollino Jr. About to begin his first season at the controls, after spending last year as an assistant to Anthony Amarino (who since moved on to Harper College), Lollino returns to the coaching wars complete with his old confidence and swagger. “I love being back and I never felt any better in all my life,” remarked Lollino, complete with a twinkle in his eye before a recent practice. “The A.D. here (George Fejt), all my assistants, everyone here have been wonderful to me.”

Lollino’s support that he receives at this Skyway Conference school is priceless. After highly successful runs at Triton college and Austin high school, teams he remarkably coached at the SAME TIME, Lollino accomplishments led him to Lane Tech. high school, which he left abruptly amid controversy. After being away for far to long, and not by his own choosing, a re-energized Lollino emerges. “I’ve been to hell and back,” he flatly states. “Last year sitting on the bench alongside Tony (Amorino) showed me a lot. I cannot tell you how much I owe him in giving me that chance.”

Lollino takes over a team that is athletic, loose, and committed. Like many junior colleges, it’s nurturing the best of local talent and blending it with sound coaching that makes programs successful. Lollino returns a pair of 6’4” bruisers; last seasons leading scorer Brandon Strita and team captain Marcus Simmons.  His assistant coaching staff, Al Tomasello and Mike Ohara are all-in as it pertains to this programs success. As for the head coach, look for Lollino to regain trust in him from others that never should have been placed in doubt.     By Michael Kosman
